Prof. Dr. med. Peter Habermeyer

Prof. Dr. med. Peter Habermeyer is a specialist for orthopaedics and trauma surgery, surgery and sports medicine. He trained at the University Hospital "Rechts der Isar" and at the Surgical University Clinic of the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich.
In 1984 he founded the first German Specialized Outpatient Clinic for Shoulder Surgery and became a professor for shoulder biomechanics in 1988.
In 1992 he became the senior consultant at the Sports Clinic in Stuttgart.
Since 1997 he has been the head of the renowned Center for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery/Sports Traumatology at the ATOS Practice Clinic Heidelberg.


Since 2008 Prof. Habermeyer has been a visiting professor at the Harvard Shoulder Service.

The special focus of his surgical practice is the surgical rotator cuff reconstruction, the surgical treatment of luxations, fractures and arthroses, and, especially, prosthetics.

Prof. Dr. Peter Habermeyer has been the President of the European Society for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SECEC) and the Vice President of the German Association for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. Besides, he is a member of the following associations: the German Association of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (DVSE), the German Association for Trauma Surgery (DGU), the German Association for Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery (DGOOC), the German Speaking Association of Arthroscopy (AGA), the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA), the society of American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), and a honorary member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA).

Professor Habermeyer is also a scientific advisor of numerous specialist journals and the author of a number of textbooks.

In 2009 Prof. Dr. Habermeyer has opened a further Practice for Shoulder Surgery at the ATOS Private Clinic Munich.
